Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has ordered the formation of an army "to liberate Jerusalem" from Israeli occupation, a senior Iraqi official announced Wednesday, quoted by AFP.
"At the orders of President Saddam Hussein, we have started to form the first brigade of volunteers in the Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) Army to liberate Jerusalem," Ali Hassan al-Meguid, a member of the decision-making Revolutionary Command Council, told reporters.
Saying it did not recognize any Israeli government, Likud led, or otherwise, Iraq lashed out at Israel, according to media reports, cited by The Jerusalem Post.
About seven million Iraqis have registered their names as volunteers to liberate Palestine, while Baghdad has asked the UN to allocate 1.5 billion euros of its oil revenues under the oil-for-food program for the Palestinians – Albawaba.com
