ALBAWABA - Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia Al Sudani announced on Tuesday that the presence of American troops in Baghdad is no longer necessary.

Al Sudani revealed that following the victory over the Islamic State group (IS), American troops should leave the country as soon as possible.

Iraqi prime minister further added in an interview with Bloomberg: "There are no more justifications… There is no need for an alliance." He further noted that a timetable will be announced later on to determine the plan for American troops' withdrawal from Iraq.

He said: "We have moved from wars to stability. IS group no longer poses any real challenge."

According to sources, there are currently around 2,500 military personnel in Iraq, a legacy of a US-led coalition, which was formed in 2014 to fight the ISIS group.

However, some American lawmakers expressed their worry that full withdrawal from Iraq could ease the job of ISIS to reshape itself in Iraq and neighbouring countries.
