A suicide attacker on Saturday detonated an explosives-laden vehicle against a U.S. military patrol on a highway three miles northwest of Ramadi, said Sgt. Laith Ismael of the Iraqi police. There was no word on casualties. U.S. and Iraqi forces also clashed with gunmen in Ramadi, after resistance fighters attacked a government building. No casualties were immediately reported.

Also Saturday, assailants targeted security forces in the oil-rich northern city of Kirkuk, blowing up a roadside bomb that killed one policeman and injured four others, said police Capt. Ahmed Shinrani.

On Friday, a U.S. soldier was killed when attackers fired on an American patrol in Baghdad, the military said, according to The Associated Press.

Meanwhile, thousands of people are expected at UK rallies against the war in Iraq - two years after the US-led assault began. The Stop the War Coalition said coach loads of people are coming from across the country for a London march.

Protesters will also be in Glasgow to call for the withdrawal of British troops, and holding vigils in Falkirk, Dumfries, Ullapool and Kirkwall. Demonstrations will take place in over 30 cities across the world as part of an international day of action.
