Iraq's transitional Governing Council has agreed to divide important ministries in the new cabinet being formed among the major communities in the country, a council member was quoted as saying Wednesday.

Muwaffaq al-Rubai said the oil portfolio will be headed by a member of the majority Shiite Muslim community, while the finance ministry will be led by a Sunni Muslim and the foreign ministry by a Kurd.

Speaking to the Washington Post, Rubai said the council has a list of 150 candidates for the 25 ministerial posts. The final makeup of the new team will not to be announced before next Wednesday, he added.

Another council official, who asked not to be named, said the final list would still have to be vetted by the occupation authority, led by L. Paul Bremer. "Besides all the Iraqi quotas, there is probably going to be an American quota," he said. (Albawaba.com)
