Three bombings in Baghdad killed at least 17 people on Tuesday in the latest round of violence in Iraq.
The blasts struck an Iraqi army checkpoint south of Baghdad, a military base north of the capital, and a mostly Shiite neighbourhood in the city, Reuters reported.
The violence comes amid a political crisis and mass protests that has pitted Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki against several government partners and amid weeks of anti-government protests in Sunni majority areas.
In the bloodiest attack on Tuesday, six people were killed when a car bomb was detonated near an army camp in the town of Taji, 25 kilometres (15 miles) north of Baghdad. At least 24 other people died.
Another car bomb exploded in a crowded market in the Shia neighborhood of Shula in northwestern Baghdad, killing 5 and wounding 13.
In Mahmudiya, south of Baghdad, a car bomb killed at least seven people, wounding 24.
