An Iranian physician living in the United States has performed the first ever operation using a patient's arm muscle cells, rather than a heart transplant, to improve the function of the heart muscle, the Tehran Times reported.
The ABC television network announced that Dr Fardad Esmaeilian of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) recently carried out a four-part bypass operation on a patient, in which he injected the arm muscle cells into the patient's damaged cardiac wall, the daily said.
The method has worked successfully on animals and in safety trials in three human patients – Albawaba.com
