The Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei arrived on Monday in the southeastern city of Bam to become further familiar with the situation in the quake-hit area.
The Supreme Leader along with several senior officials inspected different parts of the city and were briefed on the latest relief aid provided to the survivors of the killer quake.
"I've come here to express my condolences and tell you that I share your grief at the beloved ones who have died," Khamenei said. "All of us are responsible to meet the demands of the survivors," the leader said. "Aid should continue to come so that, God willing, the city of Bam is rebuilt better and this time stronger than before. We can build a strong and developed city out of this devastation."
Some 21,000 bodies of quake victims have been buried until Monday morning, the Public Relations Department at the Kerman province said in a statement. The statement added that some 12,000 are receiving treatment in hospitals
