ALBAWABA- Fars News Agency on Sunday disclosed new details about a dramatic Israeli airstrike that targeted a high-level meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council on June 15.
The closed-door meeting, held in the lower floors of a secure government facility in western Tehran, was attended by the heads of the three branches of power, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
According to the report, the attack bore similarities to tactics used in previous high-profile assassinations, including that of former Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.
A total of six bombs or missiles were reportedly used to strike the building’s entrance and exit points, aiming to isolate the officials and disrupt airflow.
The explosions caused a power outage on the targeted floor, but the attending officials managed to escape through a pre-prepared emergency hatch. Several sustained minor injuries during the exit, including President Pezeshkian, who was treated for a leg injury.
The report also raised the possibility of internal infiltration, citing the precision of the strike and the level of intelligence required to locate and target the meeting. An investigation is reportedly underway to determine whether Israeli intelligence operated with inside support.
The revelation of the Israeli strike on Iran’s top leadership underscores the extent to which Israel has escalated its objectives in the ongoing conflict.
The attack came amid the broader context of the 12-day Israeli-Iranian war, which began on June 12 when Israel launched a wide-scale military campaign targeting what it described as Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) infrastructure. The United States also participated, striking three Iranian nuclear facilities.
According to Iranian authorities, the Israeli-led offensive and subsequent retaliatory strikes have resulted in over 1,000 deaths and numerous injuries inside Iran.
In response, Iran launched a large-scale counterattack that caused extensive damage to key areas in Israel, marking one of the most destructive assaults on Israeli territory since the state’s establishment in 1948.
