An Iranian MP called on Islamic states to increase their assistance to the Palestinian people.

MP and special envoy of Iranian Parliament Speaker, Ali Akbar Mohtashemi-Pour arrived in Amman, the first leg of a tour that will take him to several Arab countires, will deliver messages from Parliament Speaker Hojjatoleslam Mehdi Karroubi to his Muslim counterparts ahead of the upcoming meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference's Parliamentary Union (OICPU), due to be held in Rabat, Morocco in September, said the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).

He told a press conference that Arab and Muslim states should join in a campaign against the “racist regime of Israel.”

He said that the assistance would range from offering moral and financial assistance, political support to the Palestinians and providing those injured in the Palestinian Intifada with medical treatment.

Mohtashemi-pour said that since the beginning of the new wave of Palestinian Intifada, Iran has offered medial service to at least 200 Palestinians injured in the “Zionist regime's indiscriminate violence.”

The Iranian MP said that currently over 100 Palestinian students are studying in Iranian universities, adding that the Iranian ministry of science, research and technology grants between 50 to 100 places at the universities to Palestinian students every year.

"If one day the Palestinian borders open to neighboring states, millions of Iranians are keen on going to Palestine and render assistance to the Palestinian Intifada," Mohtashemi-pour said.

He hoped that parliamentarians from Muslim States will actively participate in the upcoming OICPU meeting in Rabat and form general assembly of Muslim states parliaments in support of the Palestinian Intifada.

He said that the OICPU is a non-governmental organization (NGO) to which 25 parliaments are members – Albawaba.com
