Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi has embarked on a two-country tour of Central Asia with the aim of bolstering bilateral ties and discussing issues of regional concern.

He told his Kyrgyz counterpart Wednesday that forging strong ties with Central Asian nations was one of his country's top foreign policy priorities, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA)

“Our foreign policy is aimed at strengthening mutual confidence in the region,” Kharrazi said at the start of talks with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Muratbek Imanaliyev.

Kyrgyz officials said Kharrazi's talks would focus on ways to enhance stability in Central Asia, as well as plans to bolster bilateral trade and encourage Iranian investment in Kyrgyzstan.

Kharrazi is scheduled to meet with Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev and other top officials and address university students.

He is accompanied by a group of Iranian businessmen, said the report.
