A visiting Iranian official said Friday that Tehran would support Hizbollah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah on any decision he makes on the fate of three Israeli soldiers the militant group captured last month.

"It is obvious we give our support and agreement to any decision by Nasrallah," Iranian Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Sadr said after a meeting with the Hizbollah leader.

Earlier Friday, Sadr met with Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, but said he did not speak to him about the possibility of Hizbollah swapping the Israeli captives for Arabs held in Israeli jails.

The United Nations has asked Iran to use its influence over Hizbollah to free the Israelis, presumably through an exchange of prisoners.

Sadr said he delivered Lahoud a message on the regional violence from Iranian President Mohammed Khatami and invited Lahoud to visit Tehran.

Sadr, who arrived in Lebanon on Thursday after a visit to Syria, was also scheduled to meet with Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri – BEIRUT (AFP)
