A Tehran court has sentenced six members of a "notorious" gang of robbers to death, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA), quoting a press report.
The Persian daily Jomhouri-e Eslami said on Wednesday that the convicts pleaded guilty to pilfering some 1.25 billion rials in the form of foreign and Iranian cash, gold and checks in the capital Tehran and northeastern Mashhad and southern Shiraz cities.
The convicts are accomplices of a gang of 16 arrested robbers, nicknamed "gray shadows," who were stealing money for years by setting up ambushes in front of banks and trapping wealthy clients, the paper added.
Police succeeded in rounding up the gang after arresting the three most notorious members, identified only by their first names as Morteza, Ahmad and Hossein – Albawaba.com
