UAE Minister of Communications Ahmad bin Humaid Attayer has met with Iran's visiting Minister of Post, Telegraph and Telephone Seyyed Ahmad Mo'tamedi to exchange views on their bilateral agreement on the use of satellite facilities, Iran's official news agency (IRNA) reported Sunday.

During the meeting, the two ministers agreed to activate the signed agreement between the two countries and to widen their cooperation.

Mo'tamedi said that a "very suitable" climate existed in Iran for foreign investors willing to invest in the country's telecommunication sector, IRNA said.

The official visit of the Iranian minister comes four months after the two countries edged into a new political position with a view to resolving their dispute over three strategic Gulf islands.

Early in July, Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi started talks with UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who was accompanied by Information Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Interior Ministry Undersecretary Sheikh Seif bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Both sides voiced hopes for improved relations following high-level meetings in Tehran, although nothing was revealed about the fate of the disputed islands.

The visit "opened a new horizons for relations between the two countries," said Iranian President Mohammad Khatami after a meeting with Sheikh Hamdan - Albawaba.com
