Nissan Motor will introduce a new pickup truck and 4x4 wagon in Iran later this year by means of CKD exports to its local assembly partner, Pars Khodro Co., according to Asia Motors on Friday.

The specialized news service said that Pars Khodro Co., will assemble approximately 15,000 of the new models yearly, doubling the number of Nissans built in the country each year.

Tehran is eager to build up its automotive industry as annual demand in the Middle East and North Africa, currently standing at about 1.5 million vehicles, is expected to grow 50 percent by 2005.

According to Iran’s Export Magazine, there are five automobile manufacturers in Iran: Iran Khodro, Saipa, Pars Khodro, Bahman and Kish Khodro.

Should the strategy of mergers develop in Iran, the country will soon become a giant in auto manufacturing, it said, adding that Iran collaborates with the Republic of South Korea, Japan and France to produce cars locally. With France's help, Iran produces Peugeot 405 cars and has matched Paykan and Peugeot to produce Peugeot RD, as a new car, with Iran Khodro to produce the 1500cc, in its plant which covers 292 hectares of land, not far from Tehran. Iran Khodro, which was established in 1962 with a capital of 342 billion rials, also produces Peugeot GL since 1990. It also began to produce the 2000cc Peugeot GLX and Peugeot 205 GR (1360cc) in 1995 – Albawaba.com
