Iran confirmed on Monday that it would put on trial those members of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network in custody that Tehran has not been able to extradite, foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said.

"If their nationality is not clear and if no country will accept them, we will do what the information minister said," and try them in Iran, Asefi told a news conference.

Iranian Intelligence Minister Ali Yunessi was quoted in the media on Saturday as saying Iran could put on trial some top al-Qaeda members whom it has been unable to extradite.

However, Iran has declined to disclose the identities of the suspects it is holding. (Albawaba.com)
