Iranian security forces seized more than a ton of opium near the border with Pakistan, the official news agency IRNA announced on Sunday.
It said police nabbed 1,500 kilos (3,300 pounds) of opium after a gang of traffickers left the drugs behind as they fled back across the border into Pakistan. Several light arms were also seized.
Tehran police chief Mohsen Ansari said last week that security forces have seized some 110 tons of narcotics in the past five months, 20 tons more than over the same period last year.
