Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi on Sunday hailed Libya's decision to abide by the treaties on banning the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, stressing that Tehran considers the decision as positive.

"Now, the international community and supporters of the Zionist regime are expected to pressure Israel to destroy the weapons that threaten the region," he said.

It should be recalled that Israel's Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said last week that an operation to destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities if necessary is under consideration. Speaking in Persian last week on Israel Radio, Mofaz said that if the need arises to destroy Iran's nuclear capability, "the necessary steps will be taken so that Iranian citizens will not be harmed."
