The two top US senior officials' testimony to US Congress on Iraq war would not help US out of Iraq quagmire, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.
Reacting to the assessment made by the top US commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus and US ambassador to Iraq, Ryan Crocker, during congressional hearings, Mohammad-Ali Hosseini conveyed the report has not met the real expectations of the American nation.
During the two-day testimony, Petraeus and Crocker defended the Bush administration's war strategy on Iraq. "The Bush administration seeks to put the blame for most of its problems on others and get the support of its congressmen for continuing US occupation and militarism in Iraq," Hosseini said, acording to IRNA.
He added that the objective behind the Petraeus-Crocker report was to curb the mounting pressures of the Americans on Bush administration as many of them (Americans) are opposing the US war on Iraq. Criticizing the report's approach to make "unfounded and false accusations against Iran," the Iranian spokesman said, "Making such accusations cannot put the blame of the massive mistakes and unwise measures of the US statemen in Iraq on its neighbors."
Hosseini added that the Petraeus-Crocker assessment to the US Congress has just disclosed the fact that Washington made great arms deals in Iraq. The report has also unveiled how US arms producing companies have changed the Middle East region to a market and also a warehouse for their products.
