Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday attended a special ceremony marking "National Nuclar Day" where he outlined the country’s new achievements in the field. Addressing the audience, the Iranian president declared two significant achievements as nuclear fuel packaging and its preparation for use in reactors to produce electricity.
The president cited the second achievement as trial of a new generation of centrifuges which multiplies the capacity of existing centrifuges.
Prior to this, the Iranian leader inaugurated Isfahan fuel manufacturing plant (FMP), which is regarded as the most advanced and most sensitive center for production of nuclear fuel in the country. The plant will produce pellets to fuel the heavy-water research reactors.
FMP is to produce 10 tons of natural fuel each year used for 40 megawatts heavy-water reactors in Arak and 30 tons of five percent enriched uranium for light water reactors. The plant covers various activities such as nuclear and research reactors used for generating nuclear energy.
