Iran and Oman stressed on Saturday the need to boost bilateral cooperation the in the field of environment protection, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
The topic topped the agenda of a meeting between Head of Iran's Department on Enviornment Masoumeh Ebtekar and Omani Minister of Regional Municipalities and the Environment Khamis bin Mubarak bin Isa al-Alawi, said the agency.
Alawi arrived in Tehran on Saturday.
Both officials called for promotion of knowledge of the environment experts of both states and stressed the importance of exchanging information on environment protection and wild life and environment crisis management. Referring to the air pollution problem in Tehran and efforts carried out by the Iranian government to curb the air pollution problem, Ebtekar said currently about 200 non-governmental institutions are operating to remedy the air pollution in Iran.
She said the public awareness campaign should be given a high priority.
For his part, the Omani minister said there were some eight "protected spots" in his country to protect the flora and fauna on the way of extinction – Albawaba.com
