Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, said on Wednesday that the "crimes" going on in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf "send shivers to the hearts of all Muslims."

In a meeting with Iranian cultural attaches abroad affiliated to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), the Iranian leader called on the international community to stop the US "savagery" in Najaf.

"The situation in the world is such as a dark despotism has forged dominence. Of course the global despotism will come to an end soon. Symptoms of such a downfall are emerging," Khamenei said, according to IRNA

"In the name of liberal democracy, one of the worst crimes against humanity is taking place in Iraq, especially in the holy city of Najaf. The US has embarked on bloodshed in one of the holiest cities for Muslims. The Iraqi people will not leave such an atrocity unanswered." (albawaba.com)
