Iran said Monday it has identified some of its al-Qaeda detainees, but declined to disclose their names or number.

"We have identified some of the al-Qaeda members in our custody," government spokesman Abdullah Ramezanzadeh told reporters Monday.

The Associated Press quoted Ramezanzadeh as saying that if the identified al-Qaeda members are citizens of "friendly" states, "we will hand them over to those countries." "The courts will decide the fate of who are nationals of countries with whom we don't have security cooperation (agreements)," Ramezanzadeh said. "If (the al-Qaeda detainees) have committed crimes in Iran, they will be prosecuted in Iran," he said. (Albawaba.com)
