Iran's lead negotiator in talks with six world powers said late Friday they have "never been closer" to reaching a comprehensive deal over his country's disputed nuclear programme.

"At this 11th hour, despite some difference that remain, we have never been closer to a lasting outcome," Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said in a YouTube video.

Senior diplomats are holding marathon negotiations in Vienna as they race to achieve a long-term accord by a Tuesday deadline.

Speaking in English in front of Palais Coburg, where the talks are taking place, Zarif warned his counterparts that "coercion and pressure never lead to lasting solutions, but to more conflict and further hostility."

Although not mentioned by name, the 4-minute video appeared aimed at the United States.

After telling his negotiating partners to have the "audacity to break old habits," Zarif said he still had "hope" despite the lingering disagreements. The choice of words recalled the title of Obama's second book, "The Audacity of Hope."

Iran and the US, Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia are trying to reach a deal that would curb Tehran's nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief.

They have yet to bridge differences over several key points, including how quickly sanctions can be lifted, if and on what conditions nuclear inspectors can visit military sites, and what amount of nuclear research will be allowed under the deal.

Foreign ministers were expected to meet again on Sunday.
