ALBAWABA - The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson confirmed that Iran will participate and take part in the funeral of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, local media reported on Monday.
Esmaeil Baghaei told the press: "We will participate in this ceremony at a high level." However, he didn't mention who will be attending the funeral which is scheduled next Sunday in Lebanon.
Hezbollah announced last Tuesday that a funeral of its former secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah will take place on Feb. 23 in Beirut.
Nasrallah was killed on Sept. 27, 2024, in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut, where he was also temporarily buried.
"The main gathering will be held at Camille Chamoun Sports City. The ceremony will last about an hour, during which Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem will deliver a speech," Sheikh Ali Daher said as reported by Al-Manar channel.
Amid the war between Israel and Hezbollah, Tel Aviv killed many senior and top officials in the Iranian-backed group including Hashem Safieddine, Nabil Kaouk, Ibrahim Akil, Ahmad Wehbe and Ali Karaki.
