Iran condemned Saturday's assassination of the Vice President of neighboring Afghanistan, Haji Abdul Qadir, terming it the work of "enemies of stability" in the country, Iranian state radio reported, cited by AFP.

Foreign ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi expressed hope that Kabul would take "strong measures" to arrest and punish those responsible, the radio said.

"This odious crime is the work of enemies of stability in Afghanistan", it quoted Asefi as saying.

Qadir was killed earlier Saturday by two gunmen near his Kabul offices for unknown motives. (Albawaba.com)
