Iran has exported 80 million dollars worth of carpets to the United States since Washington eased an embargo on Tehran in April 2000, reported the official IRNA news agency, citing the Persian daily Norouz.
This figure is part of the total 581 million dollars that the Islamic republic earned through carpet exports in the last Iranian year (ended March 21, 2001), said the paper.
“Iran, however, can hinge little hope on the US market for its carpet exports since there in no possibility to take orders from the American market yet,” an Iranian trade official told the agency.
Carpets won 16.7 percent of the country's total revenues from non-oil exports, standing first, said IRNA, adding that chemical produce (bringing
356 million dollars in revenues) and pistachio were second.
Iran's revenue from non-oil exports as a whole rose 14.9 percent to 3.3 billion from 2.87 billion dollars in the 11 months since March 20 last year compared with the same period in the preceding year, the agency added – Albawaba.com
