Iran on Sunday slammed the adoption in Washington of a bill to impose sanctions on Syria and accused American policymakers of being guided by Israel.
"We condemn it and we think that resorting to this unilateral action is illogical, ineffective and internationally unacceptable," Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.
"We consider this to be a measure influenced by Israel's supporters in the United States," Asefi added, warning the U.S. "not to commit the same mistake in Syria as it committed in Iraq."
Last week, the U.S. Congress passed a bill to impose economic and diplomatic sanctions against Damascus, which Washington accuses of "supporting terror" and "trying to develop weapons of mass destruction". (Albawaba.com)
