An explosion in the south of Iran injured several people and damaged cars and nearby buildings, Iran's semi-official news agency, ILNA, reported late on Saturday.

The cause of the blast is so far a mystery. The incident happened near Imam Khomeini port, around 1,000 kilometers southwest of Tehran, according to AP news agency.

The port is located in the oil-rich Khuzestan province, which is where most of Iran's Arab minority lives. It has previously been the scene of demonstrations aimed at gaining more rights for the minority.
