Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that the world's "big powers" were to blame for global degradation of the environment, reported Iranian official news agency (IRNA).
In a meeting with foreign dignitaries attending the International Conference on Environment, Religion and Culture, in Tehran, Khamenei said that the big powers were misusing science and technology to the detriment of environment.
"Today, science has been driven in the wrong direction. The big powers are misusing science to strengthen the pillars of their power, and they don't pay heed to the destruction of the environment and nature resulting from chemical and nuclear arms production. Humanity has, in fact, become the victim of the big powers," said Khamenei.
He pointed fingers of accusation at the United States as the main culprit behind environment destruction, saying the US did not honor international treaties – Albawaba.com
