Iran on Thursday again gave its full backing for the Palestinian uprising against Israel and called for international intervention to stop the "crimes" of the Jewish state.

"A serious international action is needed to stop Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said, cited by the official IRNA news agency.

"The Palestinian nation's Intifada (uprising) will continue until their rights are restored, and the killing of the courageous Palestinian people's children will only increase the flames of resistance and anger," he said.

Asefi voiced Tehran's full support for the uprising, adding that Israel's "crimes have awakened the countries of the region to its power-thirsty goals and the kind of peace it wants to impose."

Israel bombarded targets across the West Bank overnight, including offices of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fateh faction, as the seven weeks of bloodshed continued.

More than 230 people have been killed, most of them Palestinian, since the latest uprising began in late September. Iran does not recognize the state of Israel – TEHRAN (AFP)
