Leading Pan African, Value Added Satellite Reseller to offer O3b capacity across the African continent in a long-term deal valued at over 75 Million USD
O3b Networks Limited (O3b) the developer of a new fiber quality, satellite-based, global Internet backbone infrastructure announced today that Intersat Africa Limited (Intersat), a leading Value Added, Satellite Capacity Reseller will resell O3b capacity across the African continent. This reseller agreement will leverage O3b’s undisruptive service offering and Intersat’s market knowledge and presence to extend the reach of O3b’s low latency, high bandwidth Internet access across the African continent.
O3b Networks Limited, funded principally by Google Inc., Liberty Global, Inc. and HSBC Principal Investments, is building the world’s first ultra-low-latency, fiber speed, satellite network. The network is designed to improve Internet access for millions of consumers and businesses in emerging and developing markets.
“We have a strong commitment to providing affordable broadband services while staying at the forefront of technology,” said Abdul Bakhrani, CEO, Intersat Africa Limited. “Our strategic alliance with O3b will benefit both the distributors and customers. It will increase reliability and lower the costs by competing directly with any new fiber deployments on a cost per bit basis. It will also provide a reliable redundancy path for national and international submarine fiber connections. Intersat has recognised O3b’s high standards in innovation and respects the company as the definitive enabler for low latency high bandwidth services in Africa and beyond. Our partnership will provide a strong platform for development of new products and services that will create substantial revenues for our leading distributors and customers across the region. This is just the beginning of a significant and powerful alliance. O3b values our partnerships in the region and are fully aligned on our go-to-market strategies,” he added.
“Our strategic agreement with Intersat broadens the horizons of both companies” said John Finney, EVP Global Sales and Marketing, O3b Networks, Ltd. “O3b was tremendously impressed with the vision and expertise of Intersat from the outset, we have spent a great deal of time together, architecting a way forward that will bring not just bandwidth to the consumer but new service offerings that will significantly adjust the mindshare of leading African ISP’s and Telcos towards the ‘next generation’ satellite arena”.
