The Interpol announced Tuesday the international dissemination of a request for the arrest or extradition at the request of Iraq against its Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi. He is suspected of having "supported terrorist attacks" in the country.

The Lyon-based international police organization has issued a request through a "red notice" to its 190 member countries to "locate and arrest" Tarek Al-Hashemi, who is likely in Qatar.

"The Interpol Red Notice against Tarek Al-Hashemi will greatly reduce his ability to travel and cross international borders. It is a powerful tool that will help authorities in the world to locate and arrest him, "said Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble in a statement. He added: "It also demonstrates the commitment of the Iraqi authorities to work with police forces worldwide, via Interpol, to call upon those accused of serious crimes."
