U.S. arms expert David Kay is to give a first interim progress report to Congress Thursday on his hunt for indications of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons in Iraq, according to legislative sources.

The report is much-awaited as pressure mounts on the Bush administration to show proof of the threat he used to justify the war against Saddam's regime.

However, the CIA has already warned that Kay will not produce any conclusive evidence of banned weapons, AFP reported.

The White House, on its part, has also insisted Kay is just producing a progress report and that the inspector still has plenty of work to finish in Iraq.

Kay will speak successively to the Senate Intelligence Committee and the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee. The meetings will be held in private and no details of the report are to be released officially.

It is noteworthy to add that after the CIA's prediction that Kay would produce no conclusive evidence of banned weapons in Iraq, the White House stepped up its public statements minimizing the impact of the report, emphasizing it was a preliminary effort. (Albawaba.com)
