Damascus has rejected Washington's so-called scheme for political and other reforms in the Middle East region, according to Syria's Information Minister.
"Our stance is that we don't want any reform project to be dictated to us from abroad. Reforms must come from the specifics of the region and not through the diktats of external forces," Syrian Information Minister Ahmad al-Hassan told on Sunday to al-Hayat newspaper.
Asked whether this was not a pretext to avoid reforms, the minister conveyed, "There are huge differences if governments undertake the reforms in a realistic way that match the political, social, economic and political development in each country, compared to (reforms) imposed from outside."
He confirmed there is a desire within the Syrian leadership, "To carry out reforms in a balanced, accurate and realistic way ...", but added, "No regime would agree to accept reforms under foreign pressure". (Albawaba.com)
