ALBAWABA - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned that hospitals in Gaza are slowly becoming "graveyards" due to medical equipment shutting down as Gaza's only powerplant has officially come out of service.
In a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, ICRC Gaza staff Hisham Mhanna said that in the next hours, the Palestinian territory’s lone power company could completely shut down.
Hospitals across Gaza are already suffering from a lack of staff and supplies, while the number of critically injured patients grows by the hour as a result of the ongoing Israeli assault.
According to Ashraf Al Qidra, a spokeswoman for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, Israel's blockade and refusal to allow fuel into Gaza have put "our medical operation into a precarious situation".
Without immediate action to restore electricity, the situation in the hospitals risks a "huge loss of these lives," he warned, a disturbing warning of the potential consequences of the ongoing power outages.
Attempts to negotiate and facilitate the entry of fuel and essential medical supplies have failed. According to the Gaza Power Plant, Israel must lift the siege and allow the people access to the fuel they sorely need. The shutdown, clouding over the Strip's ability to sustain life in the coming days.
The Ministry of Health said in a statement later on warning of a disruption to healthcare services across the Gaza Strip as hospitals don’t have enough beds to accommodate the wounded from Israel’s bombardments.
"Hospitals have run out of bed capacity. The injured and ill people are on the floor as the Israeli aggression intensifies. We hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the lives of the injured and ill, as it exhausted the health system and weakened its capacity,".
The Egyptian government announced the dispatch of humanitarian and medical relief convoys to Gaza, which were to arrive through the Rafah Border Crossing, which was closed shortly after the Israeli Army struck the only outlet Gazans had connecting them to the outside world.
Israel has vowed to destroy Egyptian convoys and any other means of help supplied to Gaza if they attempt to enter the besieged territory.
