The New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW), said on Monday that the Israeli occupation troops have demolished thousands of Palestinian homes illegally, just to create a buffer zone along the Gaza Strip-Egypt borders, leaving behind 16,000 homeless Palestinians.

In a report published on its website, the HRW said that the Israeli government has been demolishing hundreds of Palestinian-owned homes in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, just to widen the zone adjacent to the borders in case Israel implements its purported withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli occupation army has claimed that the demolition has been badly needed from a military perspective, the HRW added.

The HRW's report confirmed that due to the large-scale demolition of houses in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, 16,000 Palestinian men, women and children have been rendered homeless over the past 48 months. (Albawaba.com)
