Authorities in Syria have been holding two journalists and an actor since the early month of October on the "dangerous" accusation of spying for Israel, a human rights group claimed on Wednesday.
The Syrian Committee for the Defense of Human Rights named the three men detained as Yahia al-Aous, Hayssam Kutaish and his brother, Muhannad Kutaish, who is an actor.
"The three are accused of spying for Israel", however they have not been formally charged, said Aktham Naaisseh, president of the committee. "The accusations of spying are dangerous." He said Aous had written critical articles for Lebanese newspapers.
Both Aous and Muhannad Kutaish, who is also a teacher at the Damascus institute of dramatic arts, sent articles to newspapers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through Hayssam Kutaish, who works in the Gulf state, said Naaisseh, according to AFP.
His committee, in a statement, condemned the arrests as "violations of human rights" and called for the authorities "to free them or bring them before an ordinary court that is just and honest." (Albawaba.com)
