Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (“Huawei”), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced the signing of a GSM network expansion contract with Mobilink, the largest mobile operator in Pakistan.
Under the terms of the contract, Huawei is to supply its GSM Mobile Softswitches to Mobilink to serve additional capacity of 3.2 million lines. With this contract, Mobilink’s total network capacity deployed with Huawei GSM Mobile Softswitches now reaches 10 million lines. The largest mobile operator in Pakistan, Mobilink enjoys a strong customer base with 55 per cent market share. Huawei was awarded the contract for phase one of the network construction with a capacity of 1.5 million lines at the end of 2005. The network went through several expansion stages in the following six months as a result of the rapid increase in subscribers. The expansion under the current contract will increase the total network capacity to 10 million lines.
