HSBC Beirut’s Climate Change Concert
Unique concert raises awareness about the environmental dangers facing the region

HSBC, the World’s Local Bank, has launched a climate change project for the Middle East at an exclusive concert in Beirut. The concert featured Magida El Roumi, the Lebanese performer who showed her support for climate change, helping to raise further awareness of the environmental issues facing the region.
The concert was attended by dignitaries including Lebanese Parliamentary Ministers such as Dr. Antoine Karam, Minister of the Environment, international ambassadors based in Beirut and HSBC Beirut’s esteemed clients.
HSBC Beirut are pioneering the climate change issue in the Middle East and Francis Sullivan, HSBC Holding’s Adviser on the Environment in the Group Corporate Sustainability department, believes there is much work to be done to highlight the dangers posed to the region.
“There are many examples of the region demonstrating an awareness of climate change, with projects and developments that are oriented towards protecting the environment. However, we feel there isn’t enough broader awareness in the Middle East that will affect change and protect the future generations. Therefore, through our climate change initiatives we want to inspire our clients to make a difference,” explained Mr. Sullivan.
“Today’s concert is one of many steps in the HSBC Climate Change initiative program. To have Magida perform and show her support as well as Francis to express the need for change and the ways in which we can protect the environment is a real indication of our desire to inspire the Middle East. We believe in a better future and the environment is critical to that and today’s concert has helped place our future initiatives on a higher platform,” said François-Pascal de Maricourt, Chief Executive Officer HSBC Bank Middle East Limited Lebanon.
The concert focused on the “HSBC Climate Change Project”, which is part of HSBC’s global platform to promote the significance of climate change and to continuously strive to make a difference that will positively impact the environmental and social spheres.
“The issue of the environment is for the welfare of the planet and every part of the world needs further awareness. The Middle East has great potential to make changes in many areas of life whether that is through business or society and these realms can make a difference. We will outline more of our initiatives in due course but I really believe we’ve inspired our valued clients and guests to act for the environment,” adds François-Pascal de Maricourt.
The concert is yet another demonstration that the World’s Local Bank thinks globally and acts locally. The project has been locally pioneered and inspired by global efforts by the bank to reduce the impact on the environment and operate in ways that inspire society to do the same.
