HP expands web-to-print solution at ‘behind the scenes’ press event

HP today announced that it is working with Adobe Systems Inc. to add PDF support to the HP Instant Printing Toolkit, a web-to-print solution for the construction industry, available via the HP Partner Program.

Designed to simplify the web printing experience for architectural, engineering and construction professionals, the HP Instant Printing toolkit enables users of online plan rooms or collaborative project management sites to easily print construction documents in-house, whilst saving time and minimising costly outsourcing.

“Today’s announcement demonstrates the commitment HP has to building strategic relationships with leading companies in the industry” says Francois Martin, marketing manager, HP Graphic Arts EMEA. “Working with companies like Adobe means that we can ensure a smooth overall workflow so our customers are confident that their systems will perform optimally and seamlessly with multiple applications”.

The solution was announced at an exclusive event for press from across Europe which provided them with the opportunity to look behind the scenes at HP’s Barcelona laboratory to see how HP has been leading the market in large format printing innovation for the last 20 years.

In celebration of its leadership in providing large format printing solutions for the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), mechanical CAD manufacturing industry (MCAD) and geographical information systems (GIS) industries, HP, for the first time, opened its doors to allow access to its world class engineers and testing facilities.

These facilities, in collaboration with the HP Labs in San Diego, developed the first large format solutions when HP engineers, attempting to design a portable plotter for HP’s pocket calculator, created a novel, inexpensive way to move the paper and pen. This became the foundation for HP’s future Designjet printer business, which today is part of the Graphic Arts organisation.
