In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Oral-B and Crest organized Healthy Smiles Day, a community event which took place in Ras Al Khaimah to educate children about the importance of Oral Hygiene.
After over 1000 free check-ups Dentists from Ras Al Khaimah Dental Center witnessed that most children are not aware of the basics of oral hygiene. Studies from the event proved that most children brush their teeth only in the morning before going to school and the most common excuse used is ‘I forget to brush my teeth’. Also, the kids were not aware of the correct brushing techniques and admitted that they only go to the dentists if they have a problem with their teeth.
“It is very important to educate our children about oral hygiene at an early age to promote a healthy lifestyle for them,” said Mohamed Azzawe, Brand Manager P&G Oral-B & Crest, Middle East, “It is extremely crucial for us as parents to speak to our kids and explain to them the importance of good oral hygiene as this will help to prevent cavities, teeth stains, bad breath and other dental problems,” added Mohamed Azawwe.
It’s the parents’ responsibility to make sure their kids visit a dentist before the age of two. This can be a daunting experience for some children, but if parents exhibit a positive attitude, most children become comfortable with dentist visits. “Baby” teeth are more important than most people think, they build and form a path that permanent teeth will follow when they are ready to come out. By teaching our kids how to look after their teeth you help them go through life with a healthy and beautiful smile.
Oral Hygiene Tips from Oral-B & Crest to Parents:
• Make sure your child brushed his teeth twice a day for 2 minutes
• Change your child’s toothbrush every 3 months. Certain brushes such as Oral-B come with indicators; once these wear off, you must replace the brush.
• Choose a suitable type of toothbrush based on your child’s age and growth. Provide your child with the correct size toothbrush. Oral-B developed Stages, a range that features four unique toothbrushes. Each brush is designed to meet the specific oral care needs of kids at a different age and stage of their growth.
• Use Fluoride Toothpastes as they t provide effective cavity protection
• If your child suffers from an illness such as a cold or flu, you should replace the toothbrush immediately to avoid re-infection from germs.
• Always store a spare toothbrush at home as they may get lost, dirty, and wear out quickly.
• Visit the dentist regularly
