Houthi fighters seized a central Aden district Thursday, despite the Saudi-led coalition's attempts to thwart their advances by airstrikes, Reuters reported.

Armed men arrived by sea hours later. It's unconfirmed where the men came from; while some sources told Reuters ground troops had landed in Aden, presumably belonging to Saudi Arabia, a Yemeni official has since denied they were troops. A port official said the men had come from a Chinese ship trying to bring aid or evacuate civilians.

The southern port city had been a stronghold for President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's supporters, before Houthi attacks pushed Hadi to flee the country for safety.
