Moscow police will transfer to a state of high alert on New Year's Eve.The heightened alert will be implemented in two instances, between 31 December and 3 January (New Year holidays) and from 6 to 7 January (Orthodox Christmas). The city police denied media reports that the alert regime was launched on Friday, 27 December in the wake of the terrorist attack in Groznyy, Interfax reported.

Orders to this effect have not been issued, the police said.

Up to 9,000 policemen and Interior Ministry troops will ensure law and order in the city during the New Year festivities, the source noted. Security will be intensified at railway stations, airports, market places and large trade centres. (Albawaba.com)
