Capital Club members recently received a presentation about the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, made earlier this year by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The presentation was made to Capital Club members by Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Chairman of the Capital Club. The event was sponsored by the National Bank of Dubai and the DIFC, with more than 90 members of the business community gathered to discuss the government roadmap for future development.
The plan, "Dubai: Where The Future Begins," sets out an approach to sustain the level of growth of the emirate's economy - which has been developing rapidly during the past six years - with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13%. Sheikh Mohammad has outlined a vision to raise the per capita gross domestic product of Dubai from US$31,000 to US$44,000 by 2015.
The presentation also discussed the possibility that the financial services contribution to Dubai's GDP would more than quadruple to $US15 billion by 2015, up from $US3.4 billion currently.
Guy Guillemard, Director of the Capital Club, said: “The Dubai Strategic Plan is of immense importance to the members of the Capital Club. Our members are the heads of many of the Middle East’s most prominent businesses, and the Dubai government’s efforts to diversify Dubai and the region’s economy is a subject that our members are keen to discuss. Dr. Bin Sulaiman outlined the plan to our members in an extremely informative way.”
Previous hosts of the Capital Club’s speakers’ programme have included former Costa Rican President and CEO of Grupo Felipe IV in Spain, José María Figueres, and popular business advisor, speaker, and author Ram Charan. This programme’s host was Dr. Bin Sulaiman. Under his leadership, the DIFC has established itself as the first truly international financial centre of the region and the fastest-growing in the world.
The Capital Club, launched late 2006, is scheduled to open later this year in the DIFC’s Gate Village.
