Hezbollah ambushed a group of Nusra Front fighters in east Lebanon over the weekend killing at least 32 Islamist gunmen, a senior security source told the Daily Star Monday, adding that a member of the resistance party was also killed.

The source said the ambush by Hezbollah took place early Saturday and that the bodies of the slain Nusra Front fighters were in the group’s possession.

The Hezbollah fighter was identified as Ali Dergham Fares, a source close to the party said, adding that another fighter was wounded in clashes that followed the ambush.

Fighting erupted between the fighters and the Syrian rebels in Wadi al-Jamala, on the outskirts of Nahle, a rugged mountainous area along the porous border between Lebanon and Syria.

Separately, a Hezbollah member was killed in the ongoing fighting in the Syrian region of Qalamoun where regime forces, backed by resistance fighters, have launched an offensive to root out rebel forces.
