Lebanon's Hezbollah has accused Israel of hacking into CCTV cameras installed outside homes and shops in southern Lebanon and using the footage to target its fighters.

Hezbollah, an Iran-backed armed group in Lebanon, said on Thursday that Israel had hacked into CCTV cameras outside homes and shops in southern Lebanon.

The group said Israel was using the footage to target its fighters and urged residents to disconnect the cameras from the internet.

The allegation came amid rising violence along the Israel-Lebanon border, which was sparked by the Israel-Hamas war that started on October 7. The war has killed thousands of people, mostly civilians, in Gaza and Israel, and raised fears of a wider regional conflict.

Hezbollah said it had evidence of Israel's hacking and would reveal it soon. It said Israel had hacked the cameras after Hezbollah's attacks had destroyed most of the cameras Israel had installed near the border.

Hezbollah claimed that Israel was using the hacked footage to monitor the movements and locations of its fighters and to launch attacks on them.

Hezbollah said more than 150 people had been killed on the Lebanese side, mostly its fighters but also some civilians and journalists. Israel said at least four civilians and nine soldiers had been killed on its side.

The fighting has been mostly limited to the border area, but Israel has also hit some targets deeper in Lebanon. Israel has warned it will escalate its action unless Hezbollah withdraws from the border.

Israel has also vowed to destroy Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza, in response to the October 7 attack.

Israel's air strikes and ground invasion have killed at least 21,320 people, mostly women and children, in Gaza.
