Famous and formerly convicted Egyptian actor, Hatem Thul Fiqar has sent a letter to the Egyptian Minister of Information, Safwat El Sharif, pleading that he be allowed to return to acting.
Under the laws of the ministry, an actor may not return to his profession if convicted of a crime.
In Hatem’s case, the crime was drug addiction, for which he served 4 years in prison.
In an interview with ‘Alquds Al Arabi’ newspaper, Fiqar talked about his life as well as his career saying “I was a serious actor, with more than 43 leading roles to my name. I acted alongside Nadia Al Jundi, Ilham Shahine, Nabila Ebeid and Yusra.”
“I also admit that drugs damaged a lot of my dreams and it is enough that it extracted me from my first love, being my audience, who used to encourage me and stand by me in all my successes and failures,” he added.
Fiqar also commented about the effect of his imprisonment and his relationship with his peers.
“My relations with them (actors) are okay… I have a strong relationship with Sayed Zayan,” he said.
In the interview with the London based daily, Fiqar also revealed some private information on his relationship with retired actress and his former wife, Noura.
“The beautiful actress Noura was my wife. She is a respectable woman and I feel only respect and appreciation for her. The issue of divorce goes back to differences in opinion and points of view.”
The actor also said “there is no husband and wife combination without problems because human nature is just that.”
Meanwhile the actor, who had been addicted to various lethal drugs, talked about his new take on life.
“After the hardships I have faced because of this drug addiction, I see life painted in a different color now. I am very happy because I woke up from this disturbing nightmare, that as a result of my addiction, I was a member of the dead.”
“Now, I have hope of returning to the way I was, actor Hatem Thul Fiqar, who is loved by people and loves them back,” he said.
Furthermore, the star added, “I hope that my new start can be good, so that people will remember me in my good days.
“I am hoping that I can find a great dramatic script, where I can come back to my audience and say ‘I’m back’”-Albawaba.com.
