The question that occupies many of Moroccan intellectuals these days and which will most probably be the topic of many publications is: the following: "Is the current president of the Union of Writers of Morocco (UEM), Hassan Nejmi, preparing for his succession or is he planning to strive for a renewed mandate?" Nejmi, a poet, a journalist and a university professor became the president of UEM in conditions that were strongly opposed by other candidates, Le Matin reported.
In the last elections for the UEM, Nejmi was chosen for his second term (2001-2004) with such an overwhelming majority that some described it as "a banana republic election campaign." All in all, 173 voted for him and only a handful of people voted against him.
