Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri arrived in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad on Tuesday for two days of talks aimed at boosting trade and economic relations, reported the Daily Star.
Hariri was received by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and several high-ranking officials at an air base at Chaklala, near Islamabad.
Hariri heads a delegation that includes Foreign Minister Mahmoud Hammoud, Defense Minister Khalil Hrawi, Economy and Trade Minister Basil Fuleihan and a number of businessmen.
After a 30-minute meeting between the two men at the Pakistani president’s office, Hariri told reporters that Pakistan could help Lebanon in its de-mining efforts, the paper quoted him as saying.
Pakistan is expected to send 300 military experts to Beirut to help de-mine areas which were mined during the civil war.
Lebanon is struggling to recover from decades of civil war and occupation by Israel, which withdrew from south Lebanon in May 2000, leaving behind ruined infrastructure, orphans and land mines – Albawaba.com
