Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri arrived in Jeddah on Tuesday for talks with King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, reported the official Saudi press agency (SPA).
Monday’s Israeli raid on Syrian targets in Lebanon topped the agenda of a meeting between Hariri and Defense Minister Sultan bin Abdulaziz, said SPA, adding that the minister condemned the attack and called it “unacceptable.”
Hariri arrived in Saudi Arabia coming from Doha where he held talks with emir Sheikh Hamad al-Thani, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
It said that the regional situation topped discussions between the two sides.
Hariri also discussed cooperation in the oil, gas and investment sectors with Qatari officials.
"Our talks centered on means of developing relations in all levels, namely in the private and transport sectors," Hariri said following the two meetings.
He said the emir pledged his "full support" for Qatari businessmen wishing to invest in Lebanon and has instructed officials to immediately increase the number of direct flights to Lebanon.
Qatar also decided to deposit $60 million in the Lebanese Central Bank for 10 years at 4.4 percent interest, the paper added.
According to the daily, the Qatari deposit is seen as a gesture of goodwill to show the support of Gulf states for Hariri’s economic policies.
The deposit will boost the foreign-currency reserves of the Central Bank, which have fallen to $5.6 billion this year due to the pressure on the pound.
